Belinda Anderson (1959- ) Pond Gap, Monroe County

Belinda Anderson populates her books with everyday people and, as she explained to a Tamarack reporter, she writes in the same clear and direct language she hears from West Virginians. She describes this language as “the rich and stark treasure of the mountains.”

Anderson, a former newspaper reporter, focuses on Appalachia and the people who reside here. She writes fiction and nonfiction. She compiles book and publishes material in periodicals and encyclopedias.  She writes for adults and she writes for children. She has written about artists, books, caves, caverns, history, literature, parks, resorts, writers, etc., in West Virginia.
